You Are My Sunshine
July 25, 2025Rufus, Made for Me
By Nick Aitoro
In the beginning, the Creator’s hands
Held a precious piece of clay—
Not just any clay, but one with purpose,
Destined to brighten someone’s day.
And the Creator knew this day was special,
A day like no other before.
A soul was being shaped for love,
For joy, for mischief, and more.
When your ears were molded—big, bold, and grand—
They were made to listen, to understand.
They may be huge, but still can’t compare
To your heart, full of love beyond any measure or dare.
Your body is long, your legs are quite short,
Yet you carry yourself like a royal of sport.
A corgi in shape, but in spirit much more—
A healer, a jester, a heart at my door.
Rufus, my shadow with four little legs,
Defying the world with strength that begs
For applause and awe, so bold and wise—
A lifetime of wisdom in a fluffy disguise.
Big ears like sails catch laughter and breeze,
You bark at the silence, so easy to please.
A master of licks, a thief of my heart,
You destroy every toy like it’s fine canine art.
You lounge with Daddy, a couch-top king,
Content with the calm that cuddles bring.
In socks, you scurry with lightning and glee,
A whirlwind of joy chasing life beside me.
You play like a pup, still wild in your soul,
Each nap on my lap makes the weary feel whole.
At daycare you dazzle, you charm every face,
Then race to my arms—your happiest place.
You came into my life when I needed you most,
Not just a pet—but my constant, my post.
So here’s to my best friend, steadfast and true,
My Rufus, my heartbeat in brindle-hued view.
With each wag and wiggle, my gratitude grows—
For the corgi with fluff,
A boopable nose,
And a soul heaven chose.
